Koorka is also available and widely used in southern tamilnadu specially parts of trinelveli and beyond. Even we get this delicacy in coimbatore city bordering kerala. I still remember my mother's effort in peeling this little black beauty by smashing them against our washing stone after boiling them in hot water. The result was always a delicacy named 'LOVE'.

Rakhi what joooooy to read this ! Koorka sindabaad ! Sindabaad , sindabaad ! I think I've found my new birthday wish / ashirvaad ..may you always have someone willing to prep the koorka for you !

Sindabaad indeed. The probability of fulfillment of that wish seems very low especially for us NRKs (non-resident Keralites)

Such a delicious essay! Must ask my Mallu friend immediately why she never told me about koorka in the past 20 years we have been discussing recipes!

Chenai kizhangu ( elephant yam-which also causes itching and staining), vazha thandu ( banana stem) , vazha poo ( banana flower), I love these! But honestly I am not sure I love anyone enough to make them regularly!😂 But I am quite ready to be loved in this manner!!!

I dislocated my right hand recently. Once I am better and start cooking, I shall message you.

Oh that is so sweet of you! ❤️❤️❤️You know I should be making vaazha thandu and bringing it to you! Take care of your hand, veggies can wait!! I actually make vaazha thandu fairly decently just that I feel soooo lazy!

Koorka must be really, really tasty because I can sense the fandom in the comments section and on our WhatsApp group! Maybe next winter, I will test one friendship ;)

This essay was so enjoyable! Thank you for sharing this well hidden secret from the Mallu kitchen.

Okay, I want Koorka now :( never heard of it (from the picture shared here, I thought it's some form of sweet potato until I read your essay). Also, Dubai is brimming with our Malyalee friends. How is it possible not to have it here?!

It is available there. I made for my sis when I visited last October. All Kerala vegetables are available. Much better than what we get here 😄. Ask one of your Mallu friends to make it for you. It can be a test of true friendship 😜

You said it….

True. Koorka is an emotion. Also, i have noticed its only made in homes. Very difficult to get it from restuarants. So its been a long time i have had it. My mother used to make it the same way, but there would be more of pepper and coconut slices.

Yeah. Koorka, Vazha Pindi, Chemb etc. cannot be found in restaurants. Next time let me add pepper and coconut slices and make. Thank you for sharing that.

I've never heard of Koorka, have no idea how to get my hands on it and really want to eat it. Thank you, I guess? 😂
